The evolution of the Chianti countryside in TuscanyChianti classico :An entire universe is embodied in these words: it is a product of a lush and varied territory rich in history. The landscape unites a perfect equilibrium between the soft verdant slopes and the myriad shades of color flowing from dense forests, vineyards and olive groves. Among the tranquility of oak and cypress hills lie turreted castles, ancient churches and monasteries, little villages and farms. Here the perfume of the vines and olive trees blends with the beauty of the landscape culminating in a symphony of the senses. This land of memory is portrayed in panoramic views and fragments depicted in the background landscapes of a Madonna or a patron saint in the Uffizi Gallery or among the rooms of other museums. This small, unique universe is the ultimate destination of travelers from all over the world. Monaciano, a member of the Consorzio Chianti Classico since 1934, is a farm estate that has maintained its integrity over the last two centuries. Successive generations have witnessed a radical transformation of the landscape and the farm’s structure. The end of sharecropping, the abandonment of estates and the exodus of farming families in addition to the birth of specialized vines are all factors that have profoundly changed even this area of Chianti. The relationship between man and this land is in constant evolution. Today with newly replanted vines, the farm, respecting the territory, alternates annual crops with wheat and sunflower cultivation, and times of land rest in order to maintain the biodiversity and fertility of the soil. The complexity of the environment is also favored by cultivations which nourish wild fauna of the area. The extra virgin olive oil produced by the estate is the result of direct pressing in the nearby oil-mill consortium. The product is a full, fruity flavored oil that is incomparable in its aroma and taste and easily digestible.
